Painting Estimates
Same free matching — now for house painting
From the team behind Tri-State Home Quotes: we apply the same simple model to house painting. Instead of tracking down painters one by one, you describe your project once and we match your request with local painters serving Warrick and Vanderburgh counties. Interior rooms, full exteriors, cabinets, decks — you get free estimates to compare, and you decide on your own timeline.
We are a free quote-matching service, not a painting or roofing company. We never perform the work ourselves — pricing, scheduling, prep work, and the paint job itself come from the independent local painter you choose.
Interior and exterior painting estimates
Local painters we match requests with handle the projects homeowners ask about most:
- Interior painting — single rooms, whole-home repaints, ceilings, trim, and doors
- Exterior painting — siding, brick, stucco, fascia, and full exterior refreshes
- Cabinets and specialty work — kitchen cabinet refinishing, accent walls, and staining
- Decks and fences — staining and weatherproofing outdoor wood
What to include in your request
A few details help painters give you a useful estimate instead of a vague guess:
- Which rooms or exterior surfaces need painting, and roughly how big they are
- Current condition — fresh drywall, old paint, peeling or damaged areas
- Whether you want the painter to supply paint or you'll provide it
- Your timing — as soon as possible, within a month, or planning ahead
- Your property address or ZIP so we match you with painters who serve your area

Painting Homeowner Guide
Painting guide: what to know before you start
Paint is the cheapest part of a paint job — the labor and preparation are what you are really paying for, and they are what determine whether the finish lasts three years or ten. Understanding a few basics helps you compare quotes apples-to-apples instead of price alone.
Interior vs. exterior paint are different products
Exterior paint is formulated to flex with temperature swings, resist UV fading, and shed rain — it contains mildewcides and tougher resins. Interior paint prioritizes washability, low odor, and a smooth finish. They are not interchangeable: exterior paint used indoors keeps off-gassing longer, and interior paint used outside will peel within a season or two. Make sure your quote specifies the right product for the surface.
Prep determines the result
A paint job is only as good as what is underneath it. Proper prep means washing off dirt and mildew, scraping loose paint, sanding glossy or rough spots, caulking gaps around trim, and patching holes. This is the unglamorous bulk of the work — often more than half the labor. A suspiciously cheap bid usually means prep is being skipped, and paint applied over failing paint simply fails again, faster.
When primer is actually needed
Primer is not always required, but skipping it where it matters guarantees problems. You need primer on bare wood, bare drywall, or fresh patches (paint soaks in unevenly otherwise), over stains or water marks (use stain-blocking primer or they bleed through), and when making a dramatic color change — especially dark to light — where it saves you an entire finish coat. Previously painted surfaces in good condition generally just need cleaning and a light scuff-sand.
Sheen selection by room
Sheen is about durability versus flaw-hiding, and each room has a sweet spot:
- Flat/mattee: hides wall imperfections best — ideal for ceilings and low-traffic bedrooms, but scuffs easily.
- Eggshell/satin: the all-rounder for living rooms, hallways, and dining rooms — wipeable without looking shiny.
- Semi-gloss: toughest and most washable — the right call for trim, doors, kitchens, and bathrooms where moisture and scrubbing happen.
Realistic expectations for coverage
A gallon covers roughly 350 to 400 square feet per coat on a smooth surface — textured walls, bare wood, and porous repairs drink more. And one coat is rarely enough: two finish coats are the professional standard for even color and full durability, especially with color changes. If a bid prices a single coat, ask what happens to the warranty on coverage.
