Flooring Estimates
What flooring contractors do
Flooring contractors install and refinish the surfaces you walk on — hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, laminate, tile, and carpet. They handle subfloor prep and leveling (the step that decides whether floors stay quiet and flat), transitions between rooms, and refinishing worn hardwood back to life. Material choice matters for moisture, pets, and traffic — a good contractor will steer you honestly.
We are a free quote-matching service, not a flooring company. We never perform the work ourselves — pricing, scheduling, materials, and the job itself come from the independent local contractor you choose.
When you might need flooring
Common projects local flooring contractors handle for homeowners:
- Hardwood install and refinishing — new solid or engineered wood, or sanding and refinishing what you have
- Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) — waterproof, pet-friendly floors that look like wood
- Tile — kitchens, baths, entries, and backsplashes
- Laminate — budget-friendly wood looks for living areas
- Carpet — bedrooms and living rooms, installed with proper pad
- Whole-home flooring swaps — consistent flooring across the main level
What to include in your request
A few details help contractors give you a useful estimate instead of a vague guess:
- Which rooms and roughly how many square feet
- What flooring you want — or what you're choosing between
- What's there now — and whether old flooring needs to come up
- Pets, kids, and moisture concerns that affect material choice
- Your timing and your property address or ZIP

Flooring questions, answered
Straight answers about flooring costs and the estimate process.
-
It produces a preliminary estimate range, not a final price. Every estimate shows a confidence level and lists the assumptions it made. Actual costs depend on exact measurements, subfloor condition, material choice, and contractor pricing — a local contractor's in-person quote is always the final word.
-
It varies widely by material: laminate and LVP are typically the most budget-friendly, while solid hardwood and tile cost more. The calculator breaks your estimate into materials, labor, removal, and prep so you can see where the money goes.
-
Not necessarily — contractors can include removal in the job. In the calculator, choose Not sure for removal and the estimate will note the assumption. A contractor will confirm what's under your current floor during the quote.
-
Flooring is cut to fit rooms, corners, and doorways, so installers order extra material beyond the exact floor area. The calculator adds a waste allowance automatically (higher for tile and hardwood) so the estimate reflects what you'd actually buy.
-
When you submit a quote request, your project details and estimate go to our system so a local flooring contractor can follow up. We are a free matching service — we never sell your information, and requesting a quote never obligates you to hire anyone.
